What's up:
- Put the bike in Monday, should get it today, I figured I may as well let them do it. Also thinking about getting my Ls, after all this time. If I get it now, six or seven months down the track I should be able to move onto Ps and not be such a stay-at-home. Plenty of good reasons to do so. Will probably buy some late-90s thing that can still take some travelling, leaning towards a station wagon.
- ripping lots of CDs to mp3 that I haven't done so already, as well as those that need reripping because of pops and desynching and various weirdness. There's even some things I've only listened to once or not at all, plus there are others that I never got around to that it'd be nice to get back into circulation.
- Investigating ProFantasy's Campaign Cartographer; even though I don't "do" RPGs, nevertheless I do like screwing around with maps for other reasons and this could be just the ticket, but I'm playing around with the demo to see if it's any good.
- Bought a printer for mum. The existing one has been playing up and I suspect that it's a consequence of the same power surge from that storm that did my router in. Anyway, we half went expecting to find a printer that took the same cartridges, but, since HP don't make printers that take them any more, and since HP decided to take steps to lock out non-HP cartridges, I took the opportunity to fuck them off and get a Canon printer instead.
Also, I should probably set her up on the net (will probably get her a gmail account so it's somewhat portable and so she doesn't have to deal with spam), the most practical way would be to put a PCI wireless card on it and run it off my router but I'm not sure how well that'll work on a Win98-era box. (If I could just use an ethernet cable I'd do that, but it's too far away for that.) Anyway, I'm starting to contemplate getting a new box for myself, so I'll probably pass on my current one again.
- I'll probably take the VM archives offline and get archive.org to scrub their copies before too long. It was alright when I was doing it, but I've just about gotten rid of any remaining impulse to project myself into the world, it's part of an old life, and these days I'd be happier if it wasn't there reminding me of what an idiot I was in my late 20s. Plus I would like to wash the "blogosphere" off my hands completely.
It doesn't come across as the writings of an idiot, more like those of an intelligent commentator on culture and media. And certainly doesn't merit being completely obliterated in this fashion.
